Akarana Little Gardeners
This fun and educational school holiday activation is a collaboration between Akarana Eatery and the Tāmaki Urban Market Garden (TUMG), designed to introduce children to the joys and importance of growing their own food.
Details:
Friday 11th July
Akarana Eatery
11.30am – 1.30pm
TUMG will lead a hands-on workshop teaching children how to plant and care for herbs and edible plants. These plants will be grown on-site at Akarana Eatery and used in the kitchen – giving the children a unique opportunity to see their efforts flourish and become part of our food story.
What’s included:
🌱 Planting Workshop: Kids will learn how to grow herbs and edible plants, guided by the knowledgeable team from TUMG.
🪴 Take-Home Seedlings: Every child will get to take home a potted seedling to care for.
🛠️ All Tools Provided: Soil, pots, and planting tools will be available.
🎁 Spot Prizes & Giveaways: Fun surprises throughout the event!
🖍️ Colouring-In Competition: Creative fun for all ages with prizes to be won.
🍽️ Food & Beverage Specials: Special menu offers available from Akarana Eatery.
The workshop will take place indoors, unless weather permits an outdoor setup. If held outside, please ensure children are dressed warmly.
This is a free event, but registration is essential. If your plans change, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your spot to another family.
The workshop will be held in the room adjoining Akarana Eatery, where parents and caregivers are welcome to relax and enjoy coffee or lunch during the session. We recommend booking a table in advance.
Recommended for 5 – 12 year old, but all ages welcome!
