A picturesque morning set the scene for Ngati Whatua Orakei to bless the three vessels being handed over to Coastguard New Zealand from Emirates Team NZ.
In total, 26 vessels were built as a result of a partnership between Coastguard, Lotto New Zealand and Emirates Team New Zealand, using a $9.8 million lottery grant. The boats were then used during the Prada Cup and 36th America’s Cup presented by Prada as support vessels and chase boats, before becoming part of Coastguard’s fleet of rescue vessels.
